The Anglican Communion’s fifth mark of mission is
“To strive to safeguard the integrity of creation, and sustain and renew the life of the earth“
In order to live that out, and to help us live more faithfully and sustainably in our age of climate emergency, our PCC adopted an environmental policy in June 2024. We also registered with A Rocha’s Eco-Church scheme and in late July of last year, we were awarded the Bronze Eco-Church Award, in recognition of our efforts in worship and teaching, in our management of our land and buildings, our local and global engagement, and lifestyle.
We were aiming to get our Silver Award by the end of 2025, so we’re really pleased that we achieved this in May!
In the months between getting from Bronze to Silver we have….twinned some toilets, developed our use of outside space and registered with the Quiet Garden Movement; we have had an environmental theology reading group, and guest preachers speaking on environmental topics (including for Christian Aid Week, as we heard about the effects of climate change and industrial practice in Guatemala) . We have organised Lenten litter-picks round the local area, and have a new eco-church display board in the hall with lots of suggestions as to how we can each help.
The PCC also adopted an updated environmental policy in May 2025.
The Eco Group meets regularly – if you’d like to be involved, to come along to any of the meetings or events, or have a word with Francesca.
