About Us

We are the parish church for Monkseaton Village on the outskirts of Whitley Bay. We are part of the Church of England Diocese of Newcastle. St Peter’s has served this community for over a hundred years, and we seek to continue to do so today. Our mission statement ‘Gathering in Love, Growing in Faith, Giving Hope to All‘ sums up what we seek to do as this part of Christ’s church in this community.

Who we are:

Vicar: the Revd Dr Hannah Cleugh

Hannah arrived as Vicar in November 2021. After studying in Oxford, she was ordained in 2009, she served her curacy in the Dorchester Team Ministry in the Diocese of Oxford before moving back to her native County Durham to be Chaplain and Solway Fellow at University College, Durham, during which time she was also a member of the General Synod. Most recently she was Senior Chaplain to the Bishop of Ely. Her academic interests focus primarily on the history and theology of the English Reformation, and she is an Honorary Fellow of the Department of Theology and Religion at Durham University. She is currently Secretary of Affirming Catholicism UK. She enjoys reading, music, and walking and running with her dogs, and is delighted (again) to be back in the North-East.
